Giving Notice

Before getting married anywhere in the UK, you need to give notice at your local register office.

This means signing a legal statement confirming that you intend to marry.

You must do this at least 29 days before your ceremony, and your wedding must take place within 12 months of giving notice.

You can find full details on the UK Government website.

What Your Wedding Day at Marylebone Town Hall Looks Like

Arrival

On the day itself, you’ll usually want to arrive around 15–20 minutes early.

You’ll be shown to a private waiting area, where the registrar will have a quick chat with you before the ceremony begins.

The Ceremony

Ceremonies at Marylebone Town Hall are usually short and relaxed, lasting around 20 minutes.

You can personalise parts of the ceremony by including:

• your own vows
• readings
• music (including live music)

Confetti on the Steps

Yes — you can have confetti!

The only rule is that it must be biodegradable, and it’s thrown outside the Town Hall.

Usually, your guests will be guided onto the steps while you have time to take a few photos inside. Once your guests are ready and lined up on the steps, you’ll be led outside to cheers for an iconic confetti moment!

Photos at Marylebone Town Hall

One thing to keep in mind is that timings move quickly at the Town Hall, because weddings are happening throughout the day.

You will have time for some photos inside before you make your way outside/ Once outside typically, you’ll have time for:

• A big group photo on the steps
• A few smaller family group photos on the steps (or if another wedding is coming out you may have to move slightly over to the side)
• Portraits to include the iconic pillars and alcove, as well as the famous lions!

Where to Celebrate After Your Ceremony

Many couples organise a classic London Routemaster bus to take guests to the reception, this allows all your guests to travel together, and means that the party can begin straight away! Just be wary that London traffic is very unpredictable, you could potentially be on the bus for a while, depending on how far away your drinks reception will be! (Another thing to remember, if you’re having a summer wedding, that a lot of these buses will not have air conditioning, so it can get very hot if you’re on them for a while!)

Alternatively, London Underground stations are just a three-minute walk away, making it easy to travel across the city, heading to wherever your wedding celebrations continue!

Final Thoughts

An Old Marylebone Town Hall wedding is the perfect mix of London history, style, and simplicity.

Whether you’re planning a big celebration or a small, intimate ceremony, it’s an incredible place to start married life — and those iconic steps make for some unforgettable photos.
