A Back Garden Wedding, styled to perfection
Thereās something so special about keeping things small. No grand staircase. No huge production. Just the two of you, standing side by side in your local registry office, saying the words that actually matter ā in front of the people who know you best.
This wedding was exactly that. Intimate, emotional, uncomplicated⦠and then followed by one very stylish back garden party.
Honestly? The dream combination.
When Felicity and Alex got in touch with me about their back garden wedding, I was so excited for what the day would hold. They were keen to have a very relaxed, informal and stress-free day. But a day that would be filled with laughter and style!! With both the bride and groom being interior designers, I was not surprised that each detail had been planned and styled to perfection.
The day started at the registry office ā quiet, calm, and full of that nervous-excited energy you only get on your wedding morning. With just a handful of guests, the ceremony felt personal in the best way. You could see every smile. Hear every little laugh. No one was hidden at the back of a big venue. Everyone felt part of it!
After the āofficialā part of the day, everyone headed back to the house, where more guests awaited the arrival of the newlyweds. A small marquee in the garden had quietly transformed into the most beautiful reception space. And this is where it really came alive.
One long table stretched across the centre of the marquee, layered with glassware catching the sunlight. Candles dotted between bold, playful florals. Emroidered napkins were a gorgeous personal touch to the tablescape, and a wonderful keepsake for guests. It was styled to perfection, but in that relaxed, unfussy way that makes people instantly feel at ease. It felt like the best version of home.
Guests grabbed drinks, found sunny spots to chat, and settled in. Shoes came off. Jackets were abandoned on chairs. The music got a little louder. The atmosphere softened as the personal chefs worked away in the kitchen to produce the most wonderful canapƩs and wedding breakfast!
What I loved most about this wedding was how confidently it embraced colour and personality.
Nothing felt overly coordinated or staged. The flowers were joyful and abundant. The details were thoughtful but not overworked. It was stylish without trying too hard. Thatās the magic of a back garden wedding. Youāre not performing for a space ā youāre inviting people into yours.
Thereās no pressure to fill a huge room or follow a strict schedule. You can let the day breathe. Speeches happen naturally. Conversations stretch out. Someone inevitably ends up dancing barefoot on the grass (or with a garden broom).
It feels real.
The Best of Both Worlds- Starting at a registry office keeps the ceremony intimate and meaningful. Hosting at home keeps the celebration warm and relaxed. Together? Itās the perfect balance.
As the sun dipped lower and the table lamps flickered on, the wedding took on that golden, hazy glow that makes everything feel a little bit magical. Candles lit up the tables. Glasses clinked. Laughter carried into the evening.
It wasnāt extravagant.
It wasnāt over the top.
It was personal, colourful, stylish ā and completely full of joy.
And honestly, isnāt that exactly what a wedding should be?
